Though the mills of God grind slowly, yet they grind exceedingly small. Coronavirus: A Spiritual Perspective
An invisible microbe has become so powerful that it has forced each one of us to lockdown ourselves in the narrow confines of our houses. With much country in lockdown, still the virus could affect 42% of China's economy. Death toll has surged past 90,000 across the globe. All industries except health and sanitation are expected to lose billions of revenue.
Each one of us is impacted and is fighting a battle within. I was supposed to travel for an assignment, now it has to be delayed due to cancellation of flights. My son's internship to France is postponed due to visa closures. Even after 3 months of its outbreak, vaccines have not been discovered.
This Wuhan outbreak is not incidental. There have been several mini outbreaks when epidemics had knocked our doors time and again in form of Plague, H1N1, SARS, MERS, or SADS which swept across many countries and continents. We all have watched this virulent championship through our televisions from afar thinking it would not affect us.
COVID-19, a pandemic, being extremely virulent and the way it has spread in geometric progression has resulted in nationwide emergency. It has converted the bustling streets of Metros to turn into eerily quiet and barren. It has led to closure of Schools, Colleges, Public Transport and Unemployment of Daily Wage Earners and many more.
Novel Coronavirus is truly Novel in its combat strategy. It has been successful in causing Havoc because people were caught unaware and simply did not know how to protect themselves from its onslaught. This time the strategy of virus seem to be similar to brutality of humans when they had time and again insidiously caused suffering to animals for their gastronomic pleasures.
The sufferings that animals have suffered at the hand of humans are inexplicable. The way butcher uses a metal rod to pummel the head, while the dazed creature writhes and trembles, their throats are slit. Further they are cooked to prepare delicacies.
I personally feel that we have invited this wrath due to "Collective Karma" of humans. The way we have treated the animals, is bound to result in disaster. Law of Karma states that "As you sow, so shall you reap". If you sow evil, you will reap evil in the form of sufferings. Human sufferings are not a sign of God's or Nature's fury. Whenever humans misuse their independence they have to suffer the material consequence of their own evil actions.
Buddhists also believe in transmigration of soul over various births, where a single soul takes birth over and over sometimes as humans, animals, plants and even microbes. Buddhists believe that maturing of soul takes many lives. If the soul is immature in the present birth, it may do many wrong doings; therefore many more opportunities are given by rebirth to develop correct perspective.
I hope this Pandemic has shaken us enough to develop the right perspective in our lives. It has shaken mine. What about you???

Yes, it has shaken mine too and bound me to re-think on how our spiritual and Karmic Aspects linked with the vegetarian diet.
ReplyDeleteIt might be useful to consider what ‘karma’ means, particularly in a Buddhist context, because it has useful implications for the movement. Karma is generally explained by Buddhist teachers quite simply as “cause-and-effect.” Or simpler still, as “action” or merely “intention.” Prior to the Buddha’s teachings, one’s actions were thought to be the determinants of one’s future well being.
Henceforth, the fruits of acting on the intention are automatic. Rewards and punishments are not meted out by a deity. It might not be clear to us the way in which karma works. It might work immediately, as in the little niggling uneasy feeling we get when we are being less than generous. Or, it might take years.

Beautifully articulated ππππ..... It's well stated that we have to look upon our Karma's - our actions & efforts that where exactly we are heading to - which way or path as we have to build a beautiful place for our generation's existence & our younger generations - an environment friendly place where we mostly rely best to be a vegan in all aspects. We are equally responsible for this state of pandemic Coronavirus situation as we ourselves sow the seeds and the reap of action that had to be more sufferings to our humankind only. Let's reflect on our Karma's and rethink on being veganism ππΉπΏππ³πΊπ΄

ReplyDeleteEvery coin as two sides.
ReplyDeleteCovid-19 has restricted human being's movement. People are losing hope, people are losing homes, people are losing lives. It’s horrific. It seems as if it's God's curse.. Actually it's time for nature to breathe again. Skies are literally sky blue, rivers are crystal clear , wildlife is enjoying morning walk (as leapords, elephants, reindeer, peacocks are seen in broad day light).. human stuck... Nature relishes its good luck.
Will not write anything about the other side of the coin .. It will ruin the beauty of the thoughts I have just penned...
